Safety is the #1 priority

A quick word on football injuries.  Metuchen Pop Warner has always advocated having an EMT on the field during our games, which in the past was not mandatory, but still supplied and paid for by MPW.  In 2009, the Raritan Valley Conference mandated that a licensed EMT be present at ALL RVC sanctioned games.  The EMT’s have sole authority whether or not to call in emergency personnel and we as an organization defer to their expert medical opinion on injury related matters.

Injuries are always a concern in a contact sport like football.

Studies have shown that organized football  for 5-to-15 year-olds had 12 % fewer injuries per capita than organized soccer, for example, in the same age group.  Football also had 50% fewer injuries than bike riding and 74% fewer than skateboarding.  Kids do get hurt playing football as they do in every sport, but if you put a child in the right, and safe equipment, teach them the proper techniques and then have them play against children who are the same age and weight it is a very safe sport.  Safety is the #1 concern for our children.
