CHEER SQUADS ON HIGH

"It was just a great day," said Margaret Truppa, director of the St. Cecelia's Knights, whose squads took first place in the Junior Pee Wee Small Advanced, Pee Wee Large Advanced and Midget Small Advanced divisions. "The girls performed great and, more important, everyone had fun." The following local teams placed in Saturday's West/South Qualifier: The Roselle Park Panthers cheerleaders who played first in the Junior Midget Large Intermediate, Midget Large Intermediate and Junior Pee Wee Large Novice divisions. The Manville Colts took fourth place in the Midget Small Novice division. The Linden Tigers took third place in the Junior Pee Wee Small Novice division and fifth place in the Midget Small Novice division. The Metuchen Bulldogs took third place in the Pee Wee Large Novice and fourth place in the Midget Small Novice division. The Middlesex Falcons took first place in the Junior Pee Wee Small Novice division, the Middlesex Hawks took second place in the Pee Wee Small Novice division and the Middlesex Eagles took second place in the Midget Small Intermediate division. The Bound Brook Lancers took second place in the Pee Wee Small Intermediate division, while the Bound Brook Squires took fifth place in the Junior Pee Wee Small Novice division. The following local teams placed in Sunday's Central Qualifier: The Monroe Wolverines took first place in the Junior Pee Wee Large Intermediate, Junior Midget Large Intermediate, Junior Pee Wee Large and Midget Large divisions while taking second place in Pee Wee Large. East Brunswick GBC took first place in the Junior Pee Wee Small division. The Sayreville Leprechauns took third place in the Midget Large Novice division and fifth place in the Junior Pee Wee Small Novice division. The Iselin Giants took first place in the Midget Small Intermediate division and third place in the Pee Wee Large Intermediate division. The Colonia Patriots took third place in the Midget Large Intermediate division. The Carteret Sportsmen took first place in the Junior Midget Large Novice division and fifth place in the Midget Large division.

TRENTON — A number of local youth cheerleading teams qualified for the annual regional tournament with strong showings this past weekend in their respective qualifiers at the Sovereign Bank Arena in Trenton.
